Veteran marketing expert Anita Puri joins the Ounce of Prevention Fund

CHICAGO - Anita Puri, a seasoned marketing and advertising professional, joins the Ounce of Prevention Fund today as its new chief marketing officer.

“We are thrilled to have Anita join our team,” said Diana Mendley Rauner, president of the Ounce. “With her ability to build a strong brand and engage the right audience, she’ll be able to position our organization to have greater impact on the early education field and on the life prospects of children in poverty.”

Puri has more than 20 years of experience in developing brand identity and creating integrated marketing programs. She previously worked at Digitas, Inc., as the senior vice president, marketing client relationship lead, where she created and implemented integrated communications strategies with an emphasis on digital marketing. She managed accounts with Kraft, Intuit, MillerCoors and Emerson Electric.

Puri’s career includes leadership roles at PepsiCo., where she directed all domestic advertising and promotions for the Quaker oat-based businesses; Element 79 Partners; Foote, Cone and Belding; and Leo Burnett Company. She earned her master of business administration degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

“As a parent, I understand how the experiences children have in the first five years of life affect their health and development,” Puri said. “I look forward to using my marketing and advertising expertise to ensure that more young children in poverty have the high-quality early education experiences they need to succeed in life.”

The Ounce of Prevention Fund gives children in poverty the best chance for success in school and in life by advocating for and providing the highest quality care and education from birth to age five. Educare, the Ounce's birth-to-five school on Chicago's South Side, has become a national model for narrowing the academic achievement gap for low-income children. The Ounce also advocates for programs and policies that benefit young children and families; provides training to early childhood professionals across the country; and engages in rigorous research and evaluation projects that contribute to best practices throughout the early childhood field.
