The White House Recognition of UIC achievements

Dr. Sivananthan, a UIC alumnus, Distinguished Professor and Director of the Microphysics Laboratory (MPL) at the Department of Physics at UIC, will be recognized as a "Champion of Change" at a special event on Wednesday, May 29 at the White House.

The May 29th event will focus on eleven immigrant innovators and entrepreneurs who are helping to create American jobs, grow the U.S. economy, and make America more competitive. UIC and MPL faculty, students, alumni and staff take great pride in this honor as it is also a tribute to all those who shaped and enabled this team to succeed, including our families and friends.

The event will take place from 11:00 AM EST (10:00 AM CST) to 12:30 PM EST and will be live streamed at www.whitehouse.gov/live.  The "Champions of Change" Website http://www.whitehouse.gov/champions will be updated with the blogs written by the Champions of Change of Immigrant Innovators, their bios and photos.

This recognition comes only a few months after SPIE’s announcement of Dr. Sivananthan's elevation to the grade of Fellow of SPIE, the Society of Photo-optical Instrumentation Engineers, for his contributions to the development of II-VI photovoltaic materials.  Fellows are members of distinction, who have made significant scientific and technical contributions in the multidisciplinary fields of optics, photonics, and imaging. They are honored for their technical achievement, for their service to the general optics community, and to SPIE in particular. Dr. Sivananthan received this honor on behalf of all MPL faculty, students, and alumni on Monday, April 29, 2013 at the SPIE Defense, Security, and Sensing Symposium.
