SmithBucklin Senior VP & Chief Legal Officer Michael Silverman Receives Award

CHICAGO -- October 3, 2013 -- Michael Silverman, SmithBucklin's senior vice president, chief legal officer & specialized operations, has been awarded the Top General Counsel Award by First Chair. Silverman was one of 75 in-house attorneys from across the country - selected from more than 1,000 nominees - to receive the award.

Founded in 2010, the First Chair Awards is an annual selection of in-house counsel who, through their hard work and innovation, have made significant contributions to the legal community. The award program honors the top in-house counsel for their accomplishments in the past year in a wide range of categories, including: Top General Counsel, Top Assistant General Counsel, Rising Stars, Top Intellectual Property Counsel, Top Corporate Counsel, Top Litigation Counsel, Top Healthcare Counsel, Top Real Estate Counsel and Top Compliance Counsel. In addition, First Chair also recognizes the Top In-House Legal Departments.

Silverman joined SmithBucklin in 2000 as the company's first legal executive. He is responsible for all of the company's legal affairs, including all major corporate transactions. Recently, Silverman's responsibilities have expanded with the management of aspects of corporate operations. Prior to joining SmithBucklin, Silverman was an associate at Bollinger, Ruberry & Garvey in Chicago focusing on commercial law and litigation.

Silverman holds a J.D., cum laude, from John Marshall Law School and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Illinois. He is an active member of the American Corporate Counsel Association, the National Center for Employee Ownership, the ESOP Association and the Employee-Owned S-Corporations of America. Silverman also serves on multiple nonprofit boards.
