Allyson Laackman named VP and CFO of Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry

CHICAGO - Allyson Laackman has joined the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago (MSI) as its new vice president for finance and administration and chief financial officer. A seasoned professional with more than 25 years of experience in finance, operations and administration in both the private and public sector, Laackman will oversee  financial processes, budgeting, retail, IT, and facilities operations, working with the Finance, Facilities, and IT departments along with the Museum’s General Counsel. She replaces former vice president and CFO Robert Fisher, who retired June 2013.

“Allyson is a wonderful addition to our executive staff,” said David Mosena, president and CEO of the Museum. “Her robust and diverse professional experience will be an asset in helping MSI advance our strategic financial priorities.”

Most recently Laackman was a principal with the Civic Consulting Alliance, which provides pro-bono consulting services to the City of Chicago and Cook County. Her duties included helping craft the City of Chicago’s recently released Technology Plan—developed to guide and sustain Chicago's growth in technological innovation. Laackman also worked with Choose Chicago to create a strategy to drive cultural tourism and develop a cultural assets inventory.

Prior to the Civic Consulting Alliance, Laackman served as chief of staff to First Lady Michelle Obama during the 2012 presidential campaign as well as chief financial officer for the Executive Office of the President (EOP), which includes the White House, where she oversaw the annual development, submission and execution of the EOP’s combined $800 million budget.

“I’m excited to join such an iconic Chicago institution,” said Laackman. “I look forward to helping MSI strengthen its foundation and further its reputation as a world-class Museum, dedicated to compelling, innovative experiences and world-class science education.”

A native of suburban Chicago, Laackman is a CPA and received both her bachelor’s degree in finance and master’s of accountancy sciences from the University of Illinois. She and her husband live in Chicago. They have two children.
