Alumna named SportsPro/Ivy Sports Symposium 10 NEXT Class of 2013

Emily (Klopf) Gardner was honored with the prestigious sports marketing award.

From www.sportspromedia.com:

Emily Gardner - Account Director, Octagon
Age: 29
Location: Connecticut, USA
Education: Graduated from the University of Illinois with a dual degree in Business Administration Marketing and Sports Management.

Since joining Octagon as a 22-year-old, Emily Gardner has progressed through the agency’s ranks to lead the team supporting activation for BMW North America’s sponsorship of the US Olympic Committee (USOC). Gardner played a central role in bringing BMW and the US Bobsled Federation together – a partnership which saw BMW redesign Team USA’s two-man bobsled, which will compete at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. She has also raised over US$2 million for charitable causes through her work with the foundations of former National Football League (NFL) stars John Elway and Mike Ditka, among other organisations.

Landmark moment of your career so far?
Watching the BMW bobsled race and compete for the first time, knowing that you were part of that from the beginning, being a part of an amazing collaborative effort and watching history as it’s being made. Hopefully the landmark moment is yet to come when they cross the finish line in Sochi.

What her nominator said: “She is breaking ground in sports sponsorship and aspires to change the way companies activate as sponsors of the Olympic Games.”
